Linear Kinetic Heat Transfer: Moment Equations, Boundary Conditions, and Knudsen layers

چکیده

A linear kinetic equation for heat transfer is solved by means of the method of moments. The moment equations are solved with Maxwelltype boundary conditions for steady state energy transport. The results exhibit marked Knudsen boundary layers. The accuracy of the description is examined, and it is shown that already a relatively small number of moments can give satisfactory resolution of Knudsen layers for Knudsen numbers ε ≤ 1. The implications for moment equations for more complicated kinetic equations (such as the Boltzmann equation) are discussed.

Heat transfer in the transition regime: solution of boundary value problems for Grad's moment equations via kinetic schemes.

This paper presents a systematic approach to the calculation of heat transfer in rarefied gases (Knudsen numbers between 0.01 and 1) by means of Grad's moment method with high moment numbers, based on the Boltzmann equation with linearized collision term. The problem of describing boundary conditions for the moments is solved by the use of the so-called kinetic schemes that allow the implementa...

Kinetic schemes and boundary conditions for moment equations

A numerical scheme for moment equations of kinetic theory, due to LeTallec & Perlat, is considered for the calculation of stationary heat transfer in the Grad 13 moment system and linearized extended thermodynamics of 14 moments. It is shown that the required distance of grid points must be considerably smaller than the mean free path. Thus, the kinetic scheme is useful only in the case of larg...

Using Burnett Equations to Derive an Analytical Solution to Pressure-Driven Gas Flow and Heat Transfer in Micro-Couette Flow

The aim of the present study is deriving an analytical solution to incompressible thermal flow in a micro-Couette geometry in the presence of a pressure gradient using Burnett equations with first- and second-order slip boundary conditions. The lower plate of the micro-Couette structure is stationary, whereas the upper plate moves at a constant velocity. Non-dimensional axial velocity and tempe...

Boundary Layers and Heat Transfer on a Rotating Rough Disk

The study of flow and heat transfer over rotating circular disks is of great practical importance in understanding the cooling of rotatory machinery such as turbines, electric motors and design and manufacturing of computer disk drives. This paper presents an analysis of the flow and heat transfer over a heated infinite permeable rough disk. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the elliptic Nav...

Regularization of Grad’s 13 Moment Equations: Derivation and Linear Analysis

A new closure for Grad’s 13 moment equations is presented that adds terms of SuperBurnett order to the balances of pressure deviator and heat flux vector. The additional terms are derived from equations for higher moments by means of the distribution function for 13 moments. The resulting system of equations contains the Burnett and Super-Burnett equations when expanded in a series in the Knuds...
